Updates

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been a little too busy. I realized that I might have bitten off a little more than I can chew for the first month of the new year. Unfortunately, one of the many changes I made had to be cut, and sadly, it was my yoga practice. While the previous two months I was able to do two-a-days twice a week, I was having a hard time making myself do a second “workout” every day. I’m trying to figure out how to reorganize my day to put yoga back in, but for now, I’m taking a short break.

Hammer and Chisel is going really well! I got my heavier weights (thank you Amazon prime) and have already started to notice a difference. I think my favorite routine is Hammer Conditioning. It really kicked my butt, but I felt so great when it was done. Now that I’ve gone through two weeks, workouts are repeating. When I’ve repeated workouts, I have increased the weight a little, and it feels so awesome! I can already tell that I’m getting stronger.

It’s also been nearly two weeks without sugar. To everyone that told me that it only takes a couple days, thank you, because you were right. I still get occasional cravings for sugar, but it’s actually pretty tame as compared to those first three days. And even if I think about having a piece of candy, it’s actually not that appetizing. Mostly, I just want to eat a mango, or have oatmeal with bananas and blueberries and some honey.

I recently read somewhere that fennel essential oil can help cut sugar cravings. I’m probably going to give it a try, mostly because it’s nice to have some flavor added to my water every once in awhile.

The best part is that my symptoms are starting to go away. Post nasal drip is pretty much gone, and I can actually SMELL things again. For awhile, I was afraid that I was developing an allergy to dogs, but I think it might be mold. Yet another thing to think about this year, but I’ll save it for another time. Once I get everything straightened out digestion wise, I’ll think about allergy testing.

Probably one of the best things my dietitian told me today was basically this: it’s only the first three bites of something you eat that you truly taste. Which to me, translates to, when I’m visiting someone and they buy special Amish donuts that I won’t be able to get anywhere else, (happened to me this past weekend), I can actually have a small piece next time. I don’t need the whole donut, just a small piece for three bites to get the taste of something special.

I’ve found a lot of new ideas for breakfast and lunch that I plan on sharing here too, as I find new ways to get rid of sugar.

Finally, probably the best thing about all of this, is hearing from you all. I’ve had a couple of people tell me that they were inspired to give up sugar themselves. Keep me updated! It’s so great to hear others taking more control of their health!! My number one goal of this blog is to share my journey with others, in hopes they can take control of theirs too!

Anyone else out there giving up sugar? Let me know down in the comments! I’d love to hear from you about your experience and any recipes you’re trying!

  1. I am! I’ve decided no sugar until my little Guys’ birthdays in March. I need to do this and you are a huge inspiration. Thanks
