Essential Oils Week – Lavender

Next up – lavender. Lavender, like lemon, is a very commonly used oil, and one of the first oils I used when I started. It’s another very versatile oil that everyone should have when they get started.

If you’re jumping in on day 2, don’t forget to read the post on Essential Oils 101 to learn the basics.

My goal with the challenges at the end is to help you get creative! Many times, we get stuck in ruts, and forget that these oils have many uses. Be sure to follow along here this week and on Instagram by using the #lovingessentialoils.

On to the oil of the day – Lavender!

Everyone knows the scent of lavender and how it provides a calming effect when getting ready to go to sleep. Not only can it be used at bed time, but Lavender is calming in every sense of the word. My Lavender bottle gets a workout in the summer months when I’m spending a lot of time outside running, and I end up sunburnt.  I use a combination of a drop or two of Lavender in coconut oil, rubbing it over the burn to help alleviate some of the sting from the burn. Here’s some other ways to use it:

  • Add a few drops to a small spray bottle with water to spray on pillows, bedding for a relaxing scent at bedtime.
  • Use that same spray bottle to freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.
  • Take internally, or create a diffuser with your hands to reduce anxious feelings.*
  • Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts. (Lavender lemonade is delicious!)

Again, as explained before in Essential Oils 101, less is more. When making your spray bottle, if you’re using a small 1 ounce bottle, one or two drops is enough! If you make lavender lemonade, depending on the size of your pitcher, two or three drops will be enough.

For the challenge today, I want you to give yourself a little love and take a bath! Add a couple of drops of Lavender oil to the bath tub and add your hot water as a way to pamper yourself a little.  Everyone could use a little love.
